A Report On Translation Of An Introduction To Foreign Language Learning And Teaching (Chapter13)

As a monograph on language teaching, An Introduction to Foreign LanguageLearning and Teaching is a book of the Library of Modern Foreign Linguistics andApplied Linguistics which was introduced and published by Foreign Language Teachingand Research Press. This book is of very high academic and pragmatic value. However,the Chinese version has not been found in China up till now. This paper is a reportwritten on the translation practice of Chapter13.The main body of the translation report is composed of four parts. The first partdescribes the translation project from three aspects: background, significance andtranslation objective of the project. The second part talks about the original text, such asthe author, content as well as its language features. Preparations and the translationtheory used for guiding the translation practice are firstly introduced in the third part.Then the report uses some typical cases to analyze the translation methods adopted bythe author under the principle of communicative translation, and how to address thetranslation difficulties. The last part is the conclusion, summing up some usefulexperience and listing several unsettled problems. It is hoped that the translationmethods and how to solve translation difficulties summarized in this report couldprovide some reference for the translation of language education literature.
