This translation report takes Chapter Seven and Chapter Eight of Linda Harasim’s work Learning Theory and Online Technology as the source text(15,910 words).The book,published by Routledge,mainly introduces how her online collaborative learning theory is applied into the online practice and teaching innovative.Today,as online learning is quite popular due to the pandemic,the translation of the book is of real importance.Under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory,this report analyzes the difficult problems encountered in translation,such as word selection,meaning expression and writing style in terms of three levels of lexis,syntax and text,and puts forward their corresponding solutions.At lexical level,amplification,conversion,wording and free translation are used to translate the terms in the text;at syntactic level,literal translation,division,supplement and inversion are used to make translation readable;and at textual level,repetition and diction are adopted to retain the informative style of the text.The translator finds that when translating informative text,it is necessary to flexibly deal with the expression of a large number of terms and professional sentences,make rational use of dictionaries and network resources,and add appropriate interpretation on the basis of given information,so as to make the translation easier to understand.The translator hopes this report can provide some instructive suggestions for the further translation related to online learning.
