| Entrusted by the “Fundamentals of Education” online courses program from a Philippine university,the author served as an English interpreter in September 2021.This practice report reviews and analyzes her performance under UMEER framework proposed by Li Changshuan,and develops solutions to problems encountered in the interpreting practice.Classroom interpreting not only has the features of consecutive interpreting but also has its specific characteristics: a given situation,academic content,and multiple forms of communication.Meanwhile,online interpreting puts pressure on the interpreter to listen actively as well as construct and manage the equipment.For understanding,the interpreter needs to listen actively and accumulate pedagogical knowledge to deepen the understanding of the professional content presented by the speaker.In terms of memorizing,visual memory and structural memory can ease the burden of the interpreter to memorize the speaker’s impromptu speech with redundancy.Concerning expressing,self-monitoring enables the interpreter to produce in the target language without translationese and redundant expressions.In the aspect of emergency response,failure to retain source language information happens due to uncontrollable conditions during online classes,the interpreter needs to keep calm and actively cope with it by generalization and consultation when necessary.This thesis could serve as a reference for those who plan to interpret for an online teaching program. |
