A Report On The Simulated English-Chinese Consecutive Interpreting Of Press Conference Guided By The Effort Model

Consecutive interpreting(CI),as a kind of interpreting activities,is often used in various situations such as press conference and business negotiation.During the process of CI,whether the source language can be fully expressed can greatly influence the exchange effect.If the information of the source language cannot be fully expressed,including the problems of information loss,wrong information output and misunderstanding of the source language,the speakers cannot be well understood to some degree.Therefore,it is valuable to reduce or avoid information loss,wrong information output,misunderstanding of the source language and other problems in reality,facilitating the production quality.Guided by the Daniel Gile’s Effort Model,this report is based on the simulated English-Chinese(E-C)CI of Statement by Prime Minister Boris Johnson at Covid Press Conference.This source text mainly describes that Boris Johnson,the former Prime Minister joined in hands together with Patrick Vallance,the Chief Scientific Advisor and Chris Whitty,the Chief Medical Officer to explain the reasons and purposes of the launched anti-pandemic measures in UK to the public under the background of the ravaging epidemic;besides,they responded to the questions posed by the journalists.And this report is designated to combine the theory and practice;it will analyze the causes of the information loss,misinterpreting and other aspects from the perspective of listening and analysis,short-term memory,note-taking,production and coordination.And relevant solutions have been listed to these causes.By this report,the interpreter hopes to offer some concrete advice to CI task and deliver the contents of the source speech in a more effective manner.
