A Simulated Consecutive Interpreting Practice Report Of The China Joy 2020 Press Conference

This report reviews an on-site simulated practice of consecutive interpreting.The interpreter,who possesses extensive experience as an in-house overseas business development interpreter,was tasked with the interpreting job.From November 3rd,2021 onwards,the interpreter engaged in communication with the event organizers and hosts to articulate the purpose and objectives of the simulation.After thorough communication,the online press conference of the 2020 China International Digital Interactive Entertainment Exhibition was selected as the simulated event.The interpreter’s responsibility was to interpret the opening ceremony and keynote speeches of four leaders.This report commences by providing an introduction to the background of the online press conference and detailing the task arrangement.The Pre-interpretation Preparation section consists of two parts: long-term and short-term preparations.The former encompasses the development of language proficiency,acquisition of knowledge,and research skills,among others.The latter includes effective pre-interpretation communication,pre-interpretation material acquisition,and the interpreter’s short-term preparations in response to the theme.The Case Analysis section presents the encountered challenges and their subsequent analysis under the Effort Model for Consecutive Interpretation(CI).In response to these challenges,corresponding coping strategies and tactics are discussed and proposed,including thorough pre-interpretation preparation,paraphrasing,and selective omissions.In the Post-Interpretation section,the interpreter retrospectively summarizes the entire interpreting process,emphasizing the importance of thorough pre-interpreting preparation and emphasizing the integration of theoretical tools and practical skills in interpreting.Through retrospective observation and self-reflection,this report aims to identify areas for improvement in the interpreter’s practice,with the goal of enhancing his interpreting competence.Additionally,the report also intends to offer valuable insights and thought-provoking discussions for fellow conference interpreting practitioners in the game industry.
