China is fully open to the outside world which is not only promotes China’s economic development but also provides opportunities for cultural exchanges between countries.China is a vast land with many provinces and cities,each province and city has its own characteristic regional culture.Therefore,in the policy of opening up,the publicity work of cities is particularly important.City publicity is the introduction to a city so that domestic and foreign friends can further know the city,and promote the development of the city.Changchun City,Jilin Province,as the former capital of the“Manchukuo” and the city of automobiles,has a unique city culture that attracts foreign investors and tourists,but there has been no English translation of the relevant publicity.This thesis selects the section of the Changchun Municipal Government Website“Meeting Changchun”,which introduces the historical development of Changchun,characteristic products,cultural features as well as landmarks,etc.Through the translation of this section,the author intends to convey the characteristics of Changchun to the target readers,so as to more international friends would know about Changchun,also attract tourists and promote the economic development of Changchun.This thesis is a practical report on the Chinese-English translation of the publicity text of “Meeting Changchun”.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,introduces the source and background of the translation material,as well as the purpose and significance of the task.The second chapter is source text analysis,analyses the features of the source text from three aspects: lexis,syntax and text.The third chapter is the translation process,is mainly divided into three stages:pre-translation,production and revision.The fourth chapter is case analysis,in which the author analyses the source text from three levels: lexis,syntax and text.In terms of lexis,the author analyses the culture-loaded words and four-character structures respectively and uses phonetic translation,paraphrase translation as well as free translation,etc.In terms of syntax,the author analyses Chinese no-subject sentences and complex sentences and uses translation methods such as adding subjects,converting active sentences into passive sentences,omitting and adjusting word order.In terms of text,the author analyses two cohesive devices: reference and lexical cohesion,in order to achieve discourse cohesion and coherence.The fifth chapter is the conclusion.Through this translation practice,the author realizes that translation is not only the transformation between words but also contains many Chinese and Western expression habits and cultural backgrounds.The author expects that this translation practice report can provide some reference for the translation of city publicity texts and contribute to the popularization and development of Changchun. |
