With the advent of Information Age,Media represented by news websites has become a paramount way to obtain world news.Hence,the quality of news trans-editing has a crucial bearing on information reception.As a display of various aspects of society,social news features a light tone,vivid and amusing language as well as a deep human touch.The content of social news covers a wide range of subjects from anecdotes and cute pets to personal deeds,which plays a main role in entertaining audience and broadening their horizons.Besides the accuracy of information transmission and fluency of the target language,the translation of such texts attaches importance to the readers’ expectation.To make the translation meet the needs of readers based on accurate information transmission,therefore,bears great significance.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory,the translator has completed the translation practice of social news from Huanqiu.com.The translation practice report takes the translated social news of Huanqiu.com as samples to analyze trans-editing process under the instruction of“Functional Equivalence”,summarizes the problems and methods to maximize the functional equivalence between the original text and the translated text.Guided by the Functional Equivalence Theory and centering on target language readers,the author tries to convey the equivalent original meaning to the greatest extent and bring about similar reader-response in the hope of improving reading experience of readers.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is translation task description,which introduces task background,text characteristics and the requirement of entrusting party.The second chapter is translation process description,which outlines the theoretical basis of this report and describes the process of this trans-editing practice.The third chapter,namely cases analysis is the core of this report.The chapter lists cases to analyze and summarize how to achieve functional equivalence by appropriate translation strategies and methods under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory.The analysis unfolds three levels: lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The fourth chapter serves as a conclusion by summarizing the experience from this translation practice.Through the translation practice and the report writing,the author has gained a deeper understanding of the translation of social-news texts and Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and hopes that the experience can lay a solid foundation for further translation work in this field. |
