| With the development of Internet technologies and the renewal of educational ideas, online education has become one of the most important educational forms.Co-authored by Jonathan A.Poritz,a data analyst in Center for Teaching and Learning in Colorado State University and Jonathan Rees,a professor of history,Education is not an App: The Future of University Teaching in the Internet Age covers in-depth studies on online educational technology and management. And it is expected to provide significant enlightenments in the development and improvement of online education in China. This thesis is a report based on the Chinese translation of Education is not an App.It selects the three chapters of “Introduction”,“Online Education” and “Higher Education in a Digital Age”,which are about the essence, problems and corresponding solutions of online education in American higher education. As the original text is an informational text, the translation is done under the guidelines of Functional Equivalence Theory.Based on the rhetorical features of the original text in phonetic, semantic and syntactic levels, the report explores the translation methods to achieve functional equivalence instead of their correspondence on the surface of words in the educational text with informative function. In order to enhance both the persuasive function and appealing power so as to promote in-depth communication with readers, the translation of figures of speech requires at once both the conveyance of the meaning and information and the maximum reservation of the lively aesthetic style of the original text. Therefore, for the phonetic figures of speech such as alliteration and rhyme in the English text, such translation methods as Chinese antithesis and four-character patterns can be flexibly used in the process of translation so as to accurately convey the information of the original text while keeping the rhythm and aesthetic of equilibrium in the target language. And we use literal translation, free translation, interpretation and negation translation with regard to the semantic figures of speech including metaphors, synecdoches, metonymies and litotes to maximize the basic meaning of the original text and improve the readability and acceptability of the target text.To deal with such syntactic figures of speech as ellipses, anastrophes, parallelisms and rhetorical question,we adopt such translation techniques as addition, inversion, omission and transplantation to represent the semantic information of the original text by changing the form in the target text while recreating the thrust and style to the utmost extent. On the basis of the Chinese translation of Education is not an App,this report discusses the translation strategies and methods of figures of speech in informational texts, hoping to provide references for relative English-Chinese translation. |
