Chime Bells In Ritual And Music Making: A Historical Study Of The Western Zhou And Western Han Dynastie

In ancient of China ‘rule of rites and music’ is one part of politic,so ‘music’ and‘rite’ have a close relationship.This article is based on the research of ‘music’ and ‘rite’in the early period of Zhou and Han dynasties,taking the bell-making under the ritual music system as the research object,put the ‘right’ as research object,then focus study relationship between ‘music’ and ‘rite’.To save this problem,the article will maintain use the method of Chinese bibliography,with Archaeology and Fuke’s philosophy as auxiliary method as well.The first chapter is saved the history problem of make ‘music’ and ‘rite’ based on anthropology and Chinese bibliography.The first section would retrospect the origin of rites and music civilization Before Western Zhou dynasty,section 2 and 3 are card the political,cultural and historical background of ritual and music making in Western Zhou and Han.The second chapter combs the objective situation of bronze chimes in the Western Zhou Dynasty and the Western Han Dynasty based on the archaeological results.First of all,it combs the types and usage of bronze chimes from the literature,such as the usage occasions and ways.Secondly,the arrangement of bronze chimes and their phonetic arrangement are analyzed.The third chapter,discusses the political symbol of chime bells in the early years of Western Zhou Dynasty and Western Han Dynasty.From the perspective of bronze material of musical instruments,it is believed that it represents the monopoly position in wealth resources,production and manufacturing,and military power,thus symbolizing the dominant position in politics.From the perspective of the use of bronze musical instruments,it is believed that they monopolized the power of sacrifice,the knowledge of the past and the ability to predict the future,formed moral authority in ethics,and also symbolized the dominant position in politics.At the beginning of the Han,Confucian scholar tertiary Sun Tong redesign reed think bronze bells is based,as a kind of "learning",the existence of this kind of "knowledge" on the one hand is the summary of the past,on the one hand is the guidance for the future,and this kind of "knowledge" is established by get the affirmation of the imperial power,and endowed with political symbol.The author believes that this power of power distribution not only comes from the imperial power,but also from history,because the western Zhou dynasty’s Yue Xuan system is a kind of "knowledge" of political hierarchy and political power symbol,so the western Han bronze chime bells obtained political symbol through the Confucian scholars’ interpretation of history.In addition,Confucian scholars and literati stabilized the political structure,guaranteed the distribution of power,and obtained political power and political status through "Learning".
