A Report On The Translation Of The Performance And Application Of Rubber Products From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

With the continuous development of economic globalization and increasing trade cooperation between countries,the demand for translation of company products is increasing in enterprises.As rubbers are an indispensable polymer material in the field of science and technology,they are rich in types and widely used in household commodities or medical industries.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study Chinese to English translation of the performance and application of rubber products.The translation material of this practice report is the Performance and Application of Rubber Products.It mainly introduces different kinds of rubbers,performances and applications of rubber products,including NBR,Silicone products,Fluororubber products,HNBR,O-ring and Framework oil seal.Rubber products are widely used in various aspects of industry or daily life.This translation material,as the type of scientific text,is characterized with accuracy in information.Therefore,the author selects the Skopos theory as the guiding theory.There are three principles in the Skopos theory,namely,Skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,this report adopts omission,addition,conversion and other translation skills to discuss the translation of nominalization,four-character words,long and complex sentences,active voice,lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion at the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The author hopes to expound the application of Skopos theory through carrying out the case analysis.Through this translation practice,the author finds out that the language of scientific text is characterized by formal wording and rigorous logic.The author finds that the Skopos theory has a great theoretical guidance value for the translation of scientific texts,which helps to ensure the readability,coherence and acceptability of the target text.The author expects this translation practice can provide references for other translation practices of the same type.
