With the rapid development of economic globalization and Internet technology, computer software technology is changing with each passing day, translation software is becoming a more and more powerful assistant in translation work, and corpus-based translation is bringing computer translation technology into maturity.Based on the study of translation and computer technology,C.K.Quah(Chiew kin Quah),an American electronic technology translation expert, applied computer technology in assisting human translation, and made a fruitful research on it.His monograph translation and technology was published by Palgrave McMillan in 2006,was introduced by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press in 2010 and has been adopted as a MTI textbook by many colleges and universities in China. The Skopos theory elaborates the basic rules of Skopos theory, which are Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule,it was proposed by German functionalist translation theorists Katharina Reiss and Hans Vermeer. It is of great guiding significance to the translation of scientific.Translation and technology is a scientific English text, and it has the general characteristics of scientific English,so the author uses Skopos theory as the guiding theory of translation practice. The author selects Chapters Four to Six of Translation and Technology as the translation materials of this translation practice report.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the author conducts a study on the translation of scientific English text as well as the translation methods. This translation practice report consists of five parts:task description, process description, theory overview, case study and conclusion. The case study the author conducts in Chapter Four is the core part of this thesis,in which the author carries out a systematic investigation into the problems in the translation process based on Skopos theory and the characteristics of the scientific text at lexical, syntactic and discourse levels, and proposes some corresponding translation methods. On lexical level, the author mainly analyzes the problems of nominalization and technical terms in scientific texts;on syntactic level, the author focuses on the translation strategies of passive voice and compound sentences;on discourse level, the author makes a detailed study of the approach to the internal and external coherence in translating scientific English textThis research shows that Skopos theory-based studies on scientific English translation not only help translators in their scientific English translation practice and improve their translation quality, but widen the scope of scientific English translation studies as well.
