The source text of this translation report is the tenth essay in Translation and Cognition, entitled “Expertise in Interpreting: An Expert-performance Perspective” by K.Anders Ericsson. It challenges the common-sense view of professional ability, introduces the expert-performance approach with findings from many traditional domains of expertise, such as chess, music, medicine, and sports, and studies how the expert-performance approach can be applied to the study of expertise in superior interpreting including its acquisition and development.According to the text typology by Reiss, the source text is an informative text, revolving around interdisciplinary research of the cognitive sciences and translation studies. It involves technical terms, passive voice, complex sentences and cohesion markers, which makes translation challenging.Vinay and Darbelnet’s model is comparatively systematic and practical, and can give some guidance on the resolution of translation difficulties.Guided by this translation model, the translator has applied transposition, modulation, explicitation, and other translation methods and techniques to solve difficulties at lexical, syntactic and textual levels. It is hoped that this translation practice can provide some reference points for translating academic texts about cognitive research in translation studies, and help scholars and students in translation studies further understand the integration of translation process research with the cognitive sciences. |
