The source text of this translation report is excerpted from Chapter One and Chapter Two of Alan Sitkin’s book,Absolute Essentials of Green Business, which mainly introduces the background of green business and the depletion of the resources on this earth. The source text is an informative text because it focuses on the rigorous description of objective facts and logical predication.Under the guidance of the Hermeneutic translation theory, this report discusses translation problems from the lexical, syntactic, and textual levels. On the basis of the trust in the source text and its author, the translator follows each step of this theory to address translation difficulties, such as culture-loaded words, passive sentences, long and complicated sentences, and discourse coherence.Guided by the theory, the translator summarizes some translation techniques suitable for the informative text translation, such as extension, conversion, annotation, and inversion in case analysis. Thus, the target text can accurately convey the author’s intention while more accessible to Chinese readers.Through this translation task, the translator finds that the Hermeneutic translation theory can also guide the informative text translation. It is hoped that the translation techniques mentioned in this report can provide some reference for other translators in the informative text translation.
