From the promulgation of the Hayes Code in 1930 to the birth of the grading system in1968,the external control over American films and the internal self-discipline control of the film industry were relatively stable, constraining film creators to control the cultural content and value output of films. However, with the continuous changes in the overall social environment and economic system in the United States, under the strong control of the censorship system, there will inevitably be anti censorship film forces. In view of this, this article selects the time frame of the 1950 s,starting from a micro perspective, and taking film studios as the entry point,to explore their role evolution in the process of the prosperity, decline, and decline of American film censorship, thereby revealing the process and reasons for the decline of the American film censorship system. The first chapter mainly introduces the background of the contradiction between American film studios and the film censorship system, expounds it from both political and economic aspects, and explores the root causes of the contradiction between the film censorship system and the film industry during the period of self-discipline under the influence of the external social environment. The main content of the second chapter revolves around how film studios,as the "subject",were forced to become political propaganda tools during the Cold War and the difficulties they faced at that time.In order to survive and benefit, film studios under conflict and pressure need to resist. Therefore,in Chapter 3,we will elaborate on the opportunities for resistance surrounding both internal and external factors. The fourth chapter analyzes how film studios have contributed to the decline of the film censorship system, and conducts research based on the various confrontations between specific films and the censorship system. This leads to the conclusion that in the 1950 s,American film and film studios declined to a complete collapse and were eventually replaced by a grading system. In summary, since the 1950 s,American film production has shown a situation of compatibility between fire and water: on the one hand,a large number of blockbusters have done their utmost to comply with the Hayes Code, while on the other hand, some films have begun to take risks and seek new ways to express their content. Therefore,in order to break through the boundaries of the Hayes Code, filmmakers either openly or openly confront it.However, with the social, political, economic, and cultural changes in the United States,it has become an inevitable trend for the Hayes Code to be replaced by a hierarchical system.
