After new Chinese film industry nationalization during 1950 s, film studios, as the only approved film culture production units, have a unique authority. They can be called the development of new Chinese films career, film production and filmmakers of existence. The studio system was bound together for a common cause. Among the new Chinese film studios, Xi’an Film Studio serves as a special case in China’s 1980s’ and 1990s’ film history. It refers to "western genre film" creation. it not only marks a milepost development in the Chinese film art, but also promotes the reconsideration of the successful business model and cultural trend in the post-reform and opening up of the film industry. Therefore, the dissertation choose the motion picture production history of Xi’an Film Studio as the breakthrough point, according to the historical data, from the industrial structure, cultural events, filmmakers to research the development of Xi’an Film Studio comprehensively and deeply. Through the analysis of the historical details are ignored and cultural events, in order to provide reference and Enlightenment some of the current and future development of China film.This thesis sheds light mainly from 1979(after the Cultural Revolution) on the film production to 2000 to restore the Western film group Co.Ltd. With the time of reform strategy, creating style, the number of films produced and the historical data for the awards at home and abroad, it reflects the development of a historical period of Xi’an film studio. The study also aims to reflect this period of film creation group of cultural implication and characteristics. This thesis mainly discusses the value and significance in rewrites the history of film and the far-reaching influence on the study of contemporary film culture direction, and explains the research method in this paper and how to combine the three dimensions of film author theory, the film ontology theory and culture studies. The specific industry of Xi’an film studio of the business and works of art are summarized in this chapter.The first chapter is an overview of the history of the development of the Xi’an film studio productions operation and artistic events. Mainly divided into the early twenty years of operation(1958-1978), during the period of prosperity of the 1980s(1979-1989), ninety years of transition to a market economy period(1990-2000) of the three historical period times, on the creative environment, capital structure, contacts network flow, the award-winning works of cultural exchange, macro description.The second chapter is mainly the analysis and research on the Xi’an film studio in the most prominent business model. The Xi’an film studio were originally used as a small western regional positioning plant layout of national film industry in the provincial state-owned studios, inspired by Mr Zhong Dian-fei in the "western films" theory, under the leadership of Wu Tian-ming in the Xi’an film studio, is how to get achievements in art and business.The third chapter is mainly about the fourth generation of directors in the Xi’an film studio. The film directors like Teng Wen-ji, Yan Xue-shu and Zhang Zi-en, as peers of the same creative period with Wu Tian-ming, who contributed to the development of Xi’an film studio, it will be restored the creation of context, explored the interaction between the balance of personal ambition, production system, political environment and pursuit of art.The fourth chapter depicts the rising of the fifth generation of directors in the Xi’an film studio after the Cultural Revolution. In the search for the fifth generation, film authors commonality. At the same time, also explains the details of each director’s creative personality and film shooting opportunity. Director of research is mainly divided into two parts: one part is the director and the Xi’an film studio with relations of cooperation, main including Chen Kaige, Zhang Yimou, Tian Zhuangzhuang; Another part of the director who worked in the Xi’an film studio, including Huang Jian-xin, He Ping, Zhou Xiao-wen. It elaborates the urban theme and western theme films of the sixth generation of directors for three aspects: the new generation of creative film experience, the new generation of directors in the social context and the Xi’an film studio support new film creation tradition.With the sixth generation of directors of "Yi Ma Production " in 1990 s also produced a series of urban theme films that gaining the balance of business and art.The main co-directors including Zhang Yuan, Zhang Yang, Shi Run-jiu, Jin Chen, Wang Quan-an.In addition, the co-production film models in this period with Hong Kong and Taiwan, it also produced an effect on the exploration of genre films in the twenty years and the influence of for today’s film pattern.The epilogue is an integrate evaluation for the Xi’an film studio of film productions and filmmakers which standing in the film history dimension. and according to the domestic film industry environment at that time and other areas of the film studio developing circumstances, to makes a brief analysis.
