Energy,as an important material basis for science and technology and national economy,plays a crucial role in the survival and development of all countries.China has made achievements that have been recognized worldwide and engaged in more closely exchanges and cooperation with the rest of the world on energy sustainability and security.Therefore,there is an increasing demand for high-quality translated technological texts in energy field.The author has participated in the E-C translation practice of an excerpt from the book Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conversion.During this practice,the author analyzes and summarizes problems she encounters,puts forward solutions employed combing the “comprehension,expression and adaption”framework proposed by Professor Li Changshuan,and thus provides reference to later translators who intends to do researches on the translation of source texts in energy field.Features of technological texts include the use of terminology for conveying scientific and technological information and flexible and compact sentences for describing objective facts.This report analyzes many examples and summarizes problems the author encounters during her comprehension,expression and adaptation processes and corresponding solutions.As for comprehension,the author use s parallel texts,analyzes examples by taking contexts of the original into consideration and translates the original with critical thinking;for expression,the author avoids Europeanized Chinese,sheds light on cohesion and coherence of her translation and ensures smoothness with concise words,without sacrificing accurate transmission of the meaning of the original;and for adaptation,the author properly utilizes means of conversion of word class,amplification and omission and adjustment of word order to achieve briefness.After the translation practice,the author not only improves her translation competence,but also deepens her understanding of photovoltaic solar energy conversion by consulting large information.In this report,the author describes how to use the framework to solve actual problems and concludes several translation methods and translation techniques,hoping to bring new blood into translation studies on technological texts,especially those in energy field. |
