A Report Of C-E Translation Of Online Product Instructions From The Perspective Of Language Economics

The original text of this translation practice is taken from the online product instructions translated by the author during his internship,mainly including web page texts and app interface texts.Language economists think that languages,just as other resources,have the properties of value,utility,cost and benefit.This translation practice takes the perspective of the principle of economics of language economics and uses some translation examples to analyze the method of concise translation for online product instructions.That is to achieve the desired publicity effect of the original text through the concise translation as far as possible.The report analyzes the importance of concise translation of online product instructions,and summarizes economic translation methods mainly from the word and sentence levels.At the word level,the author introduces three methods: using abbreviations,compound words and affixes;At the sentence level,the author first introduces two sentence structures,namely elliptical sentences and simple sentences.Regarding the coherence and cohesion of sentences,the author also introduces three methods of using participle,prepositions,and conjunctions.Although the theory of language economics is not a traditional translation theory,it has its unique and innovative applicability in guiding translation practice.In this translation practice,the author uses the theory of language economics to formulate different translation strategies,and simplified the translation from the word and sentence levels.This translation practice has strengthened the author’s understanding of the characteristics of the online product instructions and honed his translation ability.The author hopes that it can provide a reference for relevant practice of English translation of online product instructions in the future.
