This report analyzes the translation of Folktales of the Bai(excerpt)from the perspective of structural objects of adaptability.The book,compiled by the Editing Group of Folktales of the Bai in Dali Prefecture,is a collection of stories featured with ethnic characteristics about the social environment,folk culture,and historical heroes of the Bai ethnic group.Although much translation research on folk literature has been carried out,there is few current translation analyses on Folktales of the Bai from the perspective of structural objects of adaptability.Translating and introducing folk literature is conducive to spreading Chinese minority culture,to enriching the translation research of minority literature,and to promoting cultural exchanges between China and countries all over the word,which is of significant research value.Given the distinction in vocabulary,grammar,expression habits,and thinking mode between Chinese and English,techniques such as shift,negation and combination are adopted by the translator in the process of translation to make the target text more in line with the language features of the target readers.Through this translation practice,it can come to the conclusion that structural objects of adaptability are good guide to the translation of Folktales of the Bai and it is expected that translation techniques summarized can provide reference value for further studies in relation to the translation of folk literature.
