| According to the White Book on China’s Pet Consumption Trends in 2021 released by JD.COM Pet,the epidemic situation has driven the rapid growth of pet consumption market,and the increasing penetration rate of family pet is the foundation for the sustainable development of pet medicine.In China,it is a common thing that foreign pet owners seek medical treatment for sick pets,but incomprehension and distrust caused by communication problems often occur.Medical interpreters should take responsibility to avoid problems and help foreign pet owners seek medical treatment smoothly.In March 2022,the interpreter was entrusted by Lanzhou Ruipeng Lanling Pet Hospital to accompany a foreign pet owner from the United States to help his sick cat with treatment,and provided interpretation service for him,on the basis of which the interpreter completed this interpretation practice report.On the top of that,the interpreter chose the interpretive theory as the guiding theory for this interpretation task.In the process of interpreting,the interpreter flexibly selected such interpreting skills as amplification,omission,and paraphrase,which helped the foreign pet owner successfully completed the treatment.The case analysis is based on the interpretive theory.In the interpreting practice,“deverbalization” and “cognitive supplement” of interpretive theory play a significant role in ensuring the quality of interpreting.And the interpreter focuses on the related issues involved in this medical interpretation under the guidance of interpretive theory,such as the emotional interaction and illocutionary acts,the adjustment of sentence order,the avoidance of taboos and simplification.To effectively ensure the smoothness in interpreting,the interpreter lays stress on the three principles: equivalence of meaning,deverbalization and deliver meaning rather than language.In the final part,the interpreter reflects on and summarizes the interpretation practice,arguing that medical interpreters should first pay attention to the quality of their interpretations.What’s more,as Chinese and foreign cultural transmitters and intermediaries,interpreters should help doctors better understand patients’ cultural values and inner demand.Finally,the interpreter should play the role of a co-doctor in medical interpretation,and this personal identification should be deepened in order to better promote the treatment for doctors and patients. |
