A Report On Consecutive Interpreting For SWUST 2018 International Training Workshop On Livestock Feeding,Processing And Waste Treatment

From July 8th to 28th,the author participated 2018 International Training Workshop on Livestock Feeding,Processing and Waste Treatment sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation Ministry of Science and Technology and undertaken by Southwest University of Science.This project,which aims to solve the problems encountered in the promotion of modern livestock breeding,processing and waste disposal technologies in developing countries and propel the communication and cooperation between China and developing countries as well as apply the advanced technology of animal husbandry in their countries,is at the initiative of China’s the Belt and Road policy.As an interpreter,the author tries to promote their communications on international consecutive conference and training courses for both two parties including interpreters of relevant enterprise and twenty-one trainees from seven different countries.The purpose of this report is to use the Interpretive Theory as a guide,and apply the appropriate interpretive skills in this interpreting practice.Six main parties involved in this report,such as project description,preparation before the interpreting,interpreting procedures,theoretical basis,case study,as well as evaluation over this interpreting task.The preparation consists of two parts,including long-term preparation and on-site preparation.Meanwhile,strong accents of foreign trainees and the potential problems in the interpreting site are predicted,and certain preparatory measures have also been taken.In the process of interpreting,according to the interpretative theory and the guiding principles of interpreting strategies,interpreting activities can be divided into three phases: comprehension,de-verbalization,re-expression.In order to preserve the intended meaning of the speaker in the source language on the basis of accuracy and fluency.Interpreting skills and methods including omission and addition,generalization and clarification of the logical sequence of the text were used for better information transmission.In the end,it is proved by practice that the correct application of the Interpretive Theory and interpreting skills jointly established by Danica Seleskovitch and others can improve the quality of interpreting.The significance of this report lies in providing future interpreters with experience and methods related to international conference consecutive interpreting.Therefore,it can help interpreters to choose correct Interpretive skills in interpreting practice to improve the quality of interpreting.
