| This translation practice report is based on Chapters 1 and 5 of Spatial Dynamics and Ecology of Large Ungulate Populations in Tropical Forests of India.The monograph is divided into five chapters,which clarify the impact of human activities on large ungulates,the necessity of assessing their population status and detection methods,the special environmental challenges involved in macro-ecological field investigations,and the design of models to test reasonable hypotheses step by step.The book is a popular science text,in which there are many biology-related discussions with strong logic.Therefore,it is necessary to accurately grasp the differences between English and Chinese grammar and word order in order to achieve the logical and content coherence of the translation.This paper mainly discusses the coherence equivalence between the target and source text in three aspects: logical coherence,grammatical coherence and semantic coherence.As to logical coherence,the author focuses on how to effectively identify and transform the implied transitions,conditions,cause-effect and progressive relationships in the source text.About grammatical coherence,the author grasps the coherence characteristics of the source text in terms of omission and reference.As for semantic coherence,the author mainly discusses the realization of coherence from the lexical perspective,striving to reproduce the objectivity and professionalism of the source text.The author has benefited a lot from the translation practice and hopes that this report can provide inspiration and reference for related translation practice. |
