Challenges And Strategies For Handling Logical Cohesion In A Chinese-english Translation Project Footsteps Of A Trailblazer

This thesis is based on a Chinese-English translation project of Footsteps of a Trailblazer,a political publicity book.The author first analyzes the logical “traps” caused by the differences between Chinese and English writing habits,expression habits and English readers’ reading habits from the perspective of original text analysis,and then suggests possible solution on how to better identify such traps to improve the readability of translation text,so as to achieve better promotional purposes.The logical relation in Chinese sentences is often hidden between the lines;Chinese articles often lack of transitional elements between topic and topic or between sentences,and logical cohesion is sometimes omitted in Chinese sentences.However,the logical relation in English sentences is usually explicit;logical cohesion between sentences and paragraphs in English has strict standards.Each language has its own writing habits and styles,and there is no right or wrong.It is a challenge for translators to identify these differences and handle them skillfully.Translators have to deal with the challenge properly so as to make the translation more authentic and improve its readability for English readers.In this thesis,the author takes the Chinese-English translation project as a case study,analyzes the difficulties encountered in handling logical relations in this case and proposes corresponding translation strategies,hoping to serve as a reference for other translators.
