Problems In The English-chinese Translation Of Popular Science Texts And The Solving Strategies

Popular science texts can not only popularize scientific and cultural knowledge,promote scientific and technological innovation,but also serve as an important medium to facilitate international exchanges in the field of science and technology,so the research on the E-C translation of popular science texts is of great significance.This thesis takes the form of a case study based on E-C translation of a popular science book,and analyzes the textual type and features of popular science texts.The thesis also summarizes the three problems faced by the author when translating the book,namely,word choices without thoughtful consideration,sentences with vague meaning because of redundancy and abstract analogy,and texts with obscure logic for lack of cohesion words.The popular science text is both informative and vocative.Based on available researches and studies and the comparison of the draft and the revised version,the author proposes the following strategies to optimize word choice,clarify sentence meaning and enhance textual cohesion.First,at the level of vocabulary,translators should analyze the context to understand the exact meaning of words and choose words with better expressiveness.Second,at the level of sentence,proper explanation can be added and amplification,summarization and omission can be adopted.Third,at the level of text,the anaphora should be correctly used and cohesion words can be added.It is hoped that this thesis will provide new insights for the translation of popular science texts.
