| In recent years,climate change has become a major problem that affects the future of mankind and its impacts have intensified.With the frequent occurrence of extreme weather events,‘how to prepare for climate change’ has aroused people’s concern.How to Prepare for Climate Change: A Practical Guide to Surviving the Chaos is a book which describes the current state of climate change,the causes and impacts of different climate events and how to prepare for them.The author selected Chapter1 and Chapter 14 of this book as the main contents hoping that target readers could pay attention to the impact of climate change on mental health and learn how to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.In view of the rich content of the original text,the author wanted to make the translation conform to the expression of Chinese habit on the basis of accurately conveying the original information,so as to achieve functional equivalence between the translation and the original text.The author chose Nord’s functional translation theory as a guide to translate with instrumental translation strategy.This report mainly discussed the difficulties encountered in this practice from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels.At the lexical level,technical terms and common words were mainly translated by literal translation,free translation,transliteration and conversion;at the sentence level,inversion,division and voice conversion were mainly used and at the text level,cohesion methods such as reference,substitution and conjunction were mainly used to ensure the coherence of the translation.Through this translation practice,the author learned the relevant knowledge about climate change,deeply understood the language characteristics of environmental science texts,and had a further understanding of the translation of applied texts guided by Nord’s functional translation theory.It is hoped that this translation practice can provide reference for related research in China. |
