A C-E Translation Report On History Of Overseas Chinese Farm In Tianma,Xiamen (Preface,Chapter Two) | | Posted on:2024-03-17 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:W J Zhou | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2555307160965139 | Subject:Translation | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | This report was based on the translation of the source text excerpted from the book named History of Overseas Chinese Farm in Tianma,Xiamen.This book describes the oral history of returned overseas Chinese and displaced overseas Chinese(15 in total),and adopts a combination of narration and exposition,mainly according to the farm history dictated by the older generation of overseas Chinese.Besides,this book gives priority to the timeline concerning from start and changes of the farm to the fall of the farm.This translation practice helps readers at home and abroad deeply feel the difficult environment of overseas Chinese and refugees.This translation has some emotional value since it is conducive to spreading the history of overseas Chinese in China and increasing love to the motherland and spurring the resonance of overseas Chinese at home and abroad.The book mainly presents the history of 15 returned overseas Chinese.The source text belongs to an informative text(Newmark,2001).This report uses the framework of “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation(CEA)” proposed by Li Changshuan to analyze translation problems.In the “Comprehension”,the translator made case study from three aspects in terms of lexical,syntactic and textual level.The problems from three aspects could be solved by consulting usage,sorting out sentence structure and analyzing the context,etc.In the expression phase,by distinguishing the linguistic diversity between English and Chinese,problems in terms of “say”,passive voice and long and complex sentences encountered during expression could be solved.When it came to adaptation,the translator laid emphasis on the differences in language characteristics between Chinese and English and took the reading habits of the target readers as the criterion.Therefore,the translator can get rid of the control of the original text on the target text by implementing domesticating strategy,taking the traget language recipient as the orientation and supplementing the background information appropriately,so as to make the target text in line with the English expression habits. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | overseas Chinese farm, Comprehension, Expression, Adaptation | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
