As various new economic patterns keep emerging with the development of global economy, the importance of and challenge to translation in economic texts keep increasing.Studies of their translation have also attracted a lot of attention in recent years.Besides the general features of high frequency of technical terms and complex sentence patterns, economic texts are often interdisciplinary, closely connected with politics, science and technology.Besides, the text at issue here,The Circular Economy: Economic,Managerial and Policy Implications(Chapter 2)is coupled with energy and environmental issues, making it even more interdisciplinary and more demanding to the translator.Close attention has to be paid to cohesion and coherence in the text besides its content. The phenomenon of pronoun explicitation and implicitation as an obvious feature of logical cohesion and coherence, originated from the observation and studies of translation universals, and have also appeared in discussions of translation techniques, though often in general text types. In other words, there are relatively fewer studies in specialized technical texts.Of the 12348 words constituting the project text here,786 are pronouns, accounting for 6.37%.Unclear reference or logic in translation will affect the general accuracy and cohesion of the translated Chinese text. Therefore, using appropriate pronoun translation techniques is of importance to the overall quality of translation. This Report, therefore, uses Ant Conc,Para Conc and other tools to investigate the frequency of pronouns and the distribution of explicitation and implicitation techniques in the translation of the project text.Characteristics of pronouns in the texts is also analyzed to make the translation smooth, concise and fluent while its ensuring accuracy,so that the whole translation can be adapted to the reading habits of target language readers.Statistics show that regarding the frequency of pronouns, there are more personal and possessive pronouns, among which “it” and “its” are the most frequently used. Then follow demonstrative pronouns,of which “this” accounts for the highest proportion. In terms of the explicated and implicated translation of pronouns, the translation of personal, possessive, relational and interrogative pronouns involves more implication, while the translation of demonstrative and indefinite pronouns is more explicated. It is hoped that the study of pronouns in the project text and their translation through explication and implication will provide some guide to the translation of economic texts in general.
