As one of the traditional Chinese folk art forms,woodblock New Year pictures have a long history and important cultural and artistic value.Among them,Suzhou Taohuawu New Year Wood-block Prints is one of the five big wood-block prints.It has been circulated for about 400 years.It has superb production techniques,bright colors and strong decorative effects.However,the fast-paced progress of modern social civilization and advancements in science and technology have led to a transformation in the way people live their lives and perceive beauty,the inheritance of handicrafts is weak,the creation of New Year pictures was once in trouble,and the market of Taohuawu woodcut New Year pictures is increasingly bleak.How to inherit the culture contained in Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints and integrate it into contemporary people’s lifestyle is an urgent problem we need to solve.To understand the development history and artistic value of Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints,we can use the image of gods as an entry point of modern cultural creativity.At the same time,the image of the gods can be combined with modern graphic design and multimedia digital expression techniques to re-interpret Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints,and on the basis of preserving traditional culture and art,better inherit the outstanding traditional Chinese culture.This thesis aims to analyze the images of gods in Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints,extract their unique cultural connotations,and apply them into brand cultural and creative products,inherit and carry forward excellent Taohuawu New Year woodblock prints,and improve the development,protection and attention of Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints.First of all,the introduction provides a brief outline of the Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints and their depictions of various deities.Secondly,it elaborates the development of Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints in different periods,namely the initial period,the prosperous period,the weakening period and the creation period.Then it summarizes and classifies the images of gods in Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints,and classifies the images of gods into those of warding off evil spirits and praying for good fortune,and appreciation of their decorative language expression,namely modeling language and color expression.And explore the development and application value of the god image in Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints.Thirdly,the thesis focuses on the redesign of the image of the gods in Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints.By examining the design of deity images in Taohuawu New Year Wood-block prints through a case study,this thesis analyzes the different levels and methods of design involved.Finally,according to the brand preliminary research and conceptual analysis of cultural and creative products,combined with relevant theories and innovative design techniques,the god image in Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints was redesigned and combined with the Zizaili brand annual custom cultural and creative products to carry out an overall cultural and creative design practice.Through the redesign of the deity images found in Taohuawu New Year woodblock prints,the design practice of cultural and creative products aims to imbue these products with cultural value,thereby promoting the development and preservation of this art form.By doing so,new ideas and approaches are offered for the continued inheritance of Taohuawu New Year wood-block prints and the imagery associated with its deities.
