| With the pace of Chinese films and TV plays going global for cultural communication,the Chinese-to-English translation of subtitles has attracted increasingly more attention.They are expected to not only enable the target audience to understand the plot and characters,but also effectively convey cultural information.Guided by Basnett’s cultural translation theory and based on the Chinese-to-English translation of the excerpt of A Dream of Splendor,this report makes classification and summarization of the methods dealing with translating cultural units.This report consists of five parts.First,it introduces the background of the translation task and its significance.Second,it explains the theory of cultural translation and briefly describes the development of subtitle translation,followed by illustrating the possibility of applying cultural translation to subtitle translation.Third,it makes a concrete analysis of the translation practice beginning with the introduction of the source text.Fourth,it sorts out the above discussion and summarized it in a more systematic way.The last is the conclusion part supplemented by the reflection.Hopefully,it can provide some references for Chinese-to-English subtitle translation. |
