Science fiction, the full name of which is scientific and fictional novel,is one typical kind of novel.Science fiction often demonstrates human life in the future world through fantasy, and its content is interwoven with scientific facts, technical prospects and reasonable predictions. At the same time,as an important literary genre, science fiction also plays an important role in cultural exchanges among China and foreign countries. As China’s science fiction has won international awards, the demand for translation of related works is increasing. The translation practice report is based on the E-C translation practice of Kurt Vonnegut’s science fiction Galapagos(Chapters 12-17).The book is narrated from the perspective of human beings millions years later, discussing a series of social problems caused by scientific and technological progress and biological evolution. The book is vivid in plots and rich in imagination. How to translate the book into a version that conforms to the reading habits of Chinese readers, and keep the sci-fi and inspiring nature of the source text and the author’s writing style, are the main problems that the translator encountered in the translation. At the same time, the translator systematically summarizes the translation difficulties encountered in the process of translation, such as sci-fi words, culture loaded words, long difficult sentences, etc. In the report, from the perspective of Skopos Theory, the translator applies various translation techniques to explore the application of the “three rules of Skopos Theory” in science fiction translation: Under the guidance of the Skopos rule,in order to achieve the communicative purpose of the translation and attract more readers, the translator mainly applies the translation methods like annotation, equivalence and amplification;Under the guidance of the coherence rule,so as to make the translation smooth and understandable, the translator mainly resorts to the translation methods of division, word order adjustment and conversion;Under the guidance of fidelity rule,in an effort to be faithful to the content of the source text and the author’s writing style, the translator mainly uses direct transfer and adaptation.Taking the Chinese translation of Galapagos as an example, the report reflects on the Chinese translation of science fiction under the guidance of Skopos Theory.Through the translation practice, the translator realized that when translating science fiction, translators should pay attention to make the translation easy to understand, keeping the language features of the source text and the author’s unique writing style, and avoiding word for word translation and over translation.Meanwhile, the translator hopes that this translation practice report can provide some reference for the translation practice of science fiction texts in the future.
