Research On The Impact Of Government Trust On Political Participation

Since the 18th CPC National Congress,China has comprehensively promoted the institutionalization,standardization and proceduralization of socialist democratic politics.The superiority of the socialist political system with Chinese characteristics has been brought into play better,and the modernization level of the national governance system and governance capabilities has been significantly improved.The realization of the goal of modernizing the national governance system and governance capacity is inseparable from the active,orderly and efficient political participation of the people.Among the many factors that affect political participation,government trust has attracted much attention.The political participation of residents has become more and more closely linked to the inner feelings of individuals,and the lives satisfaction of residents,as a subjective reflection of individual living conditions,has also become an important variable affecting the relationship between government trust and political participation.The purpose of this thesis is to explore the impact of the trust at all levels of government on political participation,and the role of life satisfaction in it.This thesis combs the research background and significance,research status,research ideas and methods,introduces the definition of government trust,political participation and life satisfaction,and puts forward the research hypothesis according to the social exchange theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.The CSS questionnaire in 2019 are used as the research sample basis,and the Logistic model is used to explore the relationship of government trust and political participation.The moderating effect of life satisfaction on the relationship between them is tested,and the stability of the conclusion is verified by stability test and urban-rural heterogeneity.The results show that:(1)The trust in the central,district and county government and township government have a significant positive impact on invited political participation,that is,the higher the citizens’ trust in governments at all levels,the higher the degree of participation in invited political activities;Under the condition of controlling other variables unchanged,government trust plays a role in promoting invited political participation.(2)The trust in the district,county and township governments have a significant negative impact on invented political participation,that is,the higher the citizens’ trust in district,county and township governments,the lower the participation in invented political activities;Under the condition of controlling other variables unchanged,government trust plays a role in inhibiting invented political participation.In addition,gender,age,education level,political outlook and other control variables also have an impact on invented political participation.(3)The influence of the trust in the central,district and county government on the invited political participation is positively regulated by life satisfaction.(4)The influence of the trust in the district and county,township government on the invented political participation is positively regulated by life satisfaction.This thesis puts forward countermeasures and suggestions from four aspects:cultivating residents’ awareness of political participation,unblocking the channels of political participation,improving the level of government trust and improving residents’ life satisfaction.
