Since Trump’s election as the president of the United States, the phenomenon of white identity politics within the United States has become prominent, coupled with the intense evolution of racial, demographic, and political conflicts, and American society has become increasingly divided.Against such a background,Biden defeated Trump to return to the White House in 2020,and this paper intends to investigate this issue: the role of voters played in Biden’s winning in the 2020 U.S.presidential election.Through collecting polling data, reading literature and reports, this paper analyzes the general situation of the 2020 U.S.presidential election, the overall characteristics of Democratic voters and Republican voters, the specific composition characteristics of Democratic voters and Republican voters, and the electoral situation in key swing states and the reasons. This paper argues that Biden relied mainly on white working-class voters to win the three rust belt states and successfully rebuild the “blue wall” in the 2020 U.S.presidential election, and relied on the support of minority voters in Arizona and Georgia to help the Democratic Party achieve a major breakthrough in these two states and successfully “flip blue”,which also played an important role in Biden’s victory in the 2020 U.S.presidential election. In contrast, although Trump made significant progress among Hispanic voters in Florida,Trump lost some white blue-collar voters in the rust states, which became one of the important reasons for Trump’s defeat. In addition, the innovation of this paper is to summarize the characteristics and forms of voter suppression in the United States before and after the 2020 U.S.presidential election. This paper finds that the problem of voter suppression in the United States has a long history and is characterized by coercion, strong ethnic targeting, autonomy, and continuity. The U.S.electorate also faces changes in voter composition in the future, mainly showing a trend of increasing minority voter share and decreasing white voter share. In the upcoming 2024 U.S.presidential election, voter suppression and changes in voter composition will still become a common dilemma for Democratic voters and Republican voters.
