Abstract/Summary:
With the development of digital information and the acceleration of urbanization, media have penetrated every aspect of people’s lives, and the changing face of urban and rural space has shaped people’s understanding of society and their perception of themselves. In terms of the entire cultural space, its rich connotations, including various media and physical space, are subtly influencing the consciousness and behavior of various ethnic groups and constructing,to varying degrees,a common identity for the whole country, thus contributing to and consolidating the formation of national identity. The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,as a typical representative region of northwest China’s ethnic minorities,is an effective example for studying the paths to the construction of a common identity for Chinese people of all ethnic groups, given its intermingling of ethnic groups and intermingling of cultures. The construction of a common identity can help promote the formation of a national community and provide an effective practical reference for building a sense of community among the Chinese people. This study adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods.Based on the questionnaire survey, the current media literacy and spatial exposure perceptions of local ethnic groups in Tongxin County are obtained through Frequency analysis and Cross validation, and the next step is to construct a Regression model to filter the influential factors in the cultural space,to find out the specific media types and physical space that have a significant impact on the identity construction process. The next step is to use a constructive Regression model to filter the influential factors in cultural spaces to identify the specific media types and physical buildings that have a significant impact on identity construction, and to explore the association between identity construction and identity understanding feedback.Based on the data presented above, the qualitative studies in Chapters 3 and 4 take into account the actual situation in Tongxin County, and examine how the knowledge space formed by book media, the digital space formed by terminal media represented by computers and mobile phones, the social space formed by We Chat, the living space formed by squares and meeting areas, the functional space formed by activity centers and children’s palaces, and the communistic space formed by memorial hall affect the construction of the Chinese community, and explores, sort out and explains its deep path. This study concludes that the media use of the various ethnic groups in Tongxin County tends to focus on the acquisition of information on the Internet, the creation of cultural and sports venues in the construction of space, and the interests of people’s livelihood policies in terms of the direction of issues, all of which show how the cultural space cuts into the common identity of Chinese people. Finally, this study proposes reflections on three aspects, regulating media content, refining field connections, and strengthening identity literacy education in inter-ethnic nested communities, which broaden the multiple paths for building a sense of Chinese national community.
