In the context of socialism with Chinese characteristics entering a new era,the focus of national unity education in China has shifted to the main line of forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation,deepening the education of national unity and progress,and strengthening association,communication and blending among ethnic groups.Since its establishment in 2000,hinterland Xinjiang senior high school classes have shouldered the mission of training high-quality talents for China’s minority areas,promoting the development of education in minority areas,promoting national unity and enhancing association,communication and blending among students of all ethnic groups.However,at present,some primary and secondary schools’ national unity and progress education is a mere formality and has little practical effect.Therefore,the study focuses on the field of hinterland Xinjiang senior high school classes and tried to explore the effectiveness of national unity and progress education in hinterland Xinjiang senior high school classes.In this study,students,school principals and teachers are selected from four schools in S province as survey schools that undertake hinterland Xinjiang senior high school classes.Based on the review and summary of existing literature and policy documents,3first-level dimensions(subjects,contents and approaches of national unity and progress education in schools),and 5 secondary dimensions(the setting of educational organizations for national unity and progress,the level of students’ "five identities",the development of educational activities for national unity and progress,the situation of association,communication and blending among students of various ethnic groups,the situation of national language education)and 18 three-level dimensions are finally established.According to this research dimension,a questionnaire for students and interview outline of school principals,teachers and students were prepared.The research adopts questionnaire survey and interview survey to conduct a comprehensive questionnaire investigation and in-depth interview on the present situation of subjects,contents and approaches of national unity and progress education in each hinterland xinjing senior high school classes,the effects of national unity and progress education in each schools are as follows: the system and mechanism of national unity and progress education are generally established;the "five identities" consciousness of students are comprehensively enhanced;Basically formed a "mixed class mixed dormitory" class mode;significantly improved the students’ national language ability.At the same time,there are six problems in each schools’ national unity and progess education:the workload of teachers in Xinjiang classes is heavy;Lack of special training for teachers in Xinjiang classes;The management level of assigned teachers is not enough;National identity education emphasizes knowledge and theory;The activities of national unity and progress education are merely formal and lack of evaluation and supervision mechanism;Activities of national unity and progress edcuation are not innovative enough.Finally,six countermeasures are proposed to solve the above problems: the first is to practically intensify internal resource inclination of Xinjiang classes’ teachers;the second is to actively develop specialized training of Xinjiang classes’ teachers;the third is to strictly implement the assigned teachers’ selection,assessment and training;the fourth is to continuously strengthen students’ national identity education;the fifth is to qucikly establish an evaluation system and guidance for national unity and progress education;the sixth is to continuously creative activity forms of national unity and progress education.
