Reading is one of the important ways for students to acquire knowledge and skills,and it is also the most basic and direct learning method for students.The sixth grade students of primary school are in the key stage of primary school to junior high school.Chinese reading ability directly affects the effectiveness of students’ Chinese learning and the learning of other courses.To some extent,the Chinese reading ability of sixth graders in primary school plays an important role in realizing the smooth transition from primary school to junior middle school and adapting to the learning of different courses.Therefore,improving the sixth grade students’ Chinese reading ability has certain theoretical significance and practical value.The sixth grade students’ Chinese reading ability refers to the reading consciousness and the ability and quality of using reading skills formed by the sixth grade students in Chinese knowledge learning and Chinese reading practice.It helps to consolidate pupils’ Chinese literacy,enrich pupils’ Chinese knowledge,improve pupils’ knowledge understanding and application ability,and promote students’ emotional sublimation.Based on the analysis of the Chinese curriculum standard for compulsory education(2022 Edition),the core literacy theory and the international student evaluation project,it can be found that the Chinese reading ability of sixth graders in primary school is composed of perceptual expression ability,understanding and application ability,emotional resonance ability and appreciation and evaluation ability.This study uses the methods of questionnaire and interview to investigate the current situation of Chinese reading ability of sixth graders in eight primary schools in H city and w City of H Province,and makes descriptive analysis,difference analysis and correlation analysis on the survey data.The study found that the sixth grade students in primary school showed a high level in perceptual expression ability,understanding and application ability,while the performance level in emotional resonance ability and appreciation and evaluation ability was relatively low.At the same time,there are significant differences in reading ability of sixth grade students in primary school.On the basis of empirical investigation,this study reveals the influencing factors of Chinese reading ability of sixth graders from the perspective of students,teachers,text and environment,including students’ low interest in reading,incorrect reading methods,too much homework,lack of reading time,unreasonable reading guidance methods of teachers,reading text does not accord with the reality of students’ development,and lack of good reading support environment.Based on this,to improve the sixth grade students’ Chinese reading ability,we need to take many measures at the same time.Specifically,in terms of students,we need to improve students’ interest in reading and optimize reading methods;In terms of teachers,teachers should follow the curriculum standards,create problem situations,carry out in-depth teaching and clarify the evaluation indicators;In terms of text,the reading content should be close to the students’ real life,increase the text genre and expand the reading scope;In terms of environment,we need to improve parental supervision,promote home school cooperation,and form a good support environment.
