| For a long time, the personal safety of left-behind children in rural areas has been of great concern to society and academia, and experts in various fields have therefore proposed various measures to help the healthy growth of left-behind children, but the symptoms are not the root cause, and injuries still occur frequently. The reason for this is that,on the one hand, due to the special characteristics of left-behind children,it takes a continuous process to improve their situation, and on the other hand, most of the measures proposed so far tend to improve the external environment without tapping into the endogenous motivation of left-behind children, ignoring that the service recipients themselves are capable. The professional approach of social work has a unique advantage in solving this problem. It insists on taking the service recipients as the center when carrying out services, considers the needs of the service recipients in the design of the content and form of activities, and helps the service recipients achieve their goals while focusing on the professionalism and effectiveness of intervention methods. Therefore,it is necessary to use the social work practice method to build self-protection capacity of left-behind children.Based on the survey of the current situation and needs of self-protection ability of left-behind children in A village elementary school, this study adopts a combination of group work and community work to carry out empowerment activities from the perspective of empowerment, aiming at building the self-protection ability of left-behind children and creating a safe school environment at the same time.In the empowerment activities of the group, the current situation and needs of left-behind children were investigated through questionnaires and interviews. Therefore, the group empowerment activities focus on the dimension of life self-protection ability to meet the needs of the service recipients, and through the design of rich and interesting activities, the endogenous motivation of the service recipients can be tapped. The community empowerment activities,on the other hand, are designed for the whole school, and the self-protection knowledge is conveyed in the form of interesting playground activities, giving children more autonomy,so that they can acquire the necessary general safety knowledge and enhance their self-protection awareness while having fun.The evaluation results show that the social work activities from the perspective of empowerment have a high level of participation and autonomy of the clients, which not only achieve the service objectives but also effectively promote the development of other abilities. The study confirmed the effectiveness of using a professional social work approach to provide self-protection capacity building services for left-behind children from an empowerment perspective, and provided practical experience for social work to intervene in issues related to left-behind children, but at the same time, there are still shortcomings in the breadth of empowerment,self-protection capacity building intervention dimensions and activity implementation strategies, which we hope to improve in the future. |
