With the development of curriculum reform and quality-oriented education in primary and secondary schools in China,the leadership of principals has attracted more and more attention.In the teaching-centered school education,teaching leadership is the core of principal leadership,and its effective play is directly related to the establishment of high quality education system,which is of great significance to promote school teaching reform,improve the quality of education and promote the overall development of the school.By referring to relevant essays and understanding the connotation and extension of "leadership","principal leadership" and "principal teaching leadership",this paper uses case method and interview method to study the teaching leadership of principal A in Y City,H Province.From the teaching reform practice of this well-known principal in two middle schools,this paper discusses the specific performance,influencing factors and development process of the teaching leadership of principals,and probes into the possible ways to improve the teaching leadership of principals.Principal A is selected as the research object of this paper for the following reasons:first,from principal A’s experiences,we can analyze his leadership from the aspects of formation,development and improvement to explore the whole development process of leadership to provide detailed research material.principal A,from a rural ordinary teacher to a rural high school principal,finally becomes the county high school principal.His leadership is developing.With vivid practice,his experiences embody the whole process of the development of teaching leadership.Second,Principal A’s teaching practice fully reflects the important role that teaching leadership plays in the development of the school and the improvement of teaching level.In the case study,principal A,through ten years’ efforts,has changed a rural middle school in poor educational foundation into an excellent demonstration school,which was titled National Curriculum Reform School,A Model School of Provincial Curriculum Reform,A Municipal Continuing Education Training Base for Primary and Secondary School Teachers and An Excellent Model of New Curriculum Reform.The original "five rings progressive" teaching mode and "independent management mode" have been a nationally famous experience in curriculum reform;What’s more,he also changed a county high school,which had been in a long-term slump in educational quality into the top excellent high school in the comprehensive evaluation of teaching quality of ordinary high schools in Y City for two consecutive years.In the educational practice of the two middle schools,Principal A has also grown into an outstanding principal of national curriculum reform,the host of the "Second Phase" Primary and Secondary School Principals’ Leading Project Office of the Ministry of Education(established the "Master Studio of Principal A"),an expert of the first batch of national training expert database of Hunan Province,and an outstanding principal of Y City.It has practical significance to enrich the theory of teaching leadership.Third,the formation and practice of principal A’s teaching leadership can be referred to and widely promoted.At present,the curriculum reform of our country ’ s middle and primary schools is facing many difficulties,including the school hardware facilities,teachers ’management,the difficulties from students and the resistance of class changes.But principal A has successfully solved these difficulties and got a good result.His conductions and experiences have strong operability and can be used for reference and promotion,providing a good sample for the improvement of local primary and secondary school teaching level and the full play of local primary and secondary school principals’ teaching leadership.Therefore,I carry on the case study make a thorough analysis of the principal teaching leadership role in the formation process and practice way.It has an extremely positive significance on providing a new model for real good primary and secondary school principal,local knowledge to enrich the teaching of the principal leadership theory,and leadership of the local principal teaching practice.The thesis aims to promote teaching reform,successfully implement exploration of qualityoriented education,study the embodiment of teaching leadership in principal A and put forward the operable and practical enlightenment and advice through the analysis of principal A in two secondary schools.Therefore,it can provide reference knowledge resources and practice samples for middle school principals to improve teaching leadership.The thesis is divided into four parts,including introduction,theoretical basis of middle school principals’ teaching leadership,policy basis and core concept,case analysis,thinking and suggestions of middle school principals’ teaching leadership.Through the method of combining theoretical research and investigation,this paper puts forward eight dimensions to improve teaching leadership: improving educational mechanism,attaching great importance to hardware facilities,strengthening teaching management,improving ideological cultivation,creating teaching characteristics,paying attention to teacher training,stimulating students’ motivation and cultivating campus culture.
