With the development of the times,the requirements for the cultivating talents have changed,and in education China has gradually shifted its focus on the cultivation of key human abilities.With the development of the information age,the strength of science and technology has become one of the manifestations of national competitiveness,and the subject of physics,as the basis for the development of science and technology,is highly valued in education by both teachers and students The implementation of the Strong Foundation Program and the changing situation of independent enrollment in colleges and universities has made the National Physics Competition for Secondary School Students(referred to as Physics Competition in this paper)one of the effective ways to select outstanding physics talents for the country and one of the avenues for students with aptitude in physics.Then,it is important to study how to develop students’ key abilities based on physics competitions.In this paper,we analyze the background and the current situation of the research,and take in-depth learning ability,higher-order thinking ability,and scientific inquiry ability as the key abilities studied in this paper.The questions of the 35th to 36th Physics Competition were analyzed and studied from the knowledge level,thinking level,and scientific inquiry level,and the following characteristics were found:1.Knowledge level:there are many knowledge points tested,covering a wide range of knowledge,and a large proportion of comprehensive questions in the test.2.Thinking level:the test focuses on higher-order thinking ability,requires various thinking methods,and a large proportion of multi-solution questions.3.Scientific inquiry level:emphasis on comprehensive experimental skills,focus on the ability to design experimental programs,the ability to collect information for independent inquiry.Based on the characteristics of the test questions obtained,it was found that physics competitions require a high degree of in-depth learning ability,higher-order thinking ability,and scientific inquiry ability.Through teacher interviews,it was found that the main factors hindering the teaching of physics competitions at present are the high knowledge of university physics and the novelty of the test questions.This part of the study provides a realistic basis for the strategy proposed in this paper.Combining the analysis of test questions and teacher interviews,practical strategies are proposed to cultivate students’ deep learning ability,higher-order thinking ability,and scientific investigation ability based on the national physics competition for secondary school students,and the feasibility of the strategies is demonstrated through examples to contribute some reference significance for teachers in teaching physics competition.The last part is a summary and reflection,which summarizes the findings of this paper and the improvement methods for the shortcomings of this paper.
