| The promulgation of the Science Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)marks a new stage of science curriculum reform in China’s basic education stage. The new curriculum standard establishes that the fundamental goal of the science curriculum is to cultivate students’ core literacy and promote their lifelong development. The new curriculum standard advocates designing teaching around the core concepts of the subject, arranging learning progressions based on students’ cognitive characteristics, stimulating students’ thinking and exploration desire with appropriate situations and questions, and bringing into play the developmental function of evaluation. As a teaching method based on real situations,Project-based learning emphasizes the use of various learning resources.Project-based learning takes the form of independent inquiry, participation of teachers and students, and group cooperation to continuously explore driving problems in depth.By continuously solving problems and producing project results, students are helped to master the core concepts of the subject and develop the necessary character and key competencies. It can be seen that the characteristics and advantages of project-based learning exactly coincide with the concept of the science curriculum. In actual teaching, general unit overall teaching is very weak in cultivating students’ inquiry consciousness and higher-order thinking ability, which is mainly reflected in the following four aspects:lack of systematic design of teaching objectives, insufficient integration and dynamism of learning resources, lack of innovation in learning and teaching methods, and backward teaching evaluation.Integrating project-based learning into unit overall teaching, focusing on driving issues, and reconstructing unit teaching with project activities can solve the problems encountered in the implementation of unit overall teaching. This method also highlights the value of project-based learning in unit overall teaching, such as highlighting literacy goals to point to solving real problems, refining core content to optimize and integrate learning resources, emphasizing collaborative exploration to promote the comprehensive improvement of students’ literacy, and implementing multiple evaluations to drive changes in teaching evaluation. Therefore, this study suggests that project-based learning can be applied to the overall teaching of primary school science units. This study uses research methods such as literature research, classroom observation, case studies and interviews.Firstly, the theoretical and practical levels are used to demonstrate the inevitability and rationality of project-based learning in the overall teaching of primary school science units.Secondly, under the principles of focusing on the core literacy of the subject, being context-driven,highlighting the continuity and diversity of learning inquiry and building a learning community, the main process of project-based learning in primary school science unit teaching is clarified and the content of what teachers should accomplish at each stage is explained. The main process consists of four stages:preliminary analysis, project design, project implementation and evaluation and reflection.Thirdly, based on the above process,a project-based overall teaching unit on ’Building an Environmental Community’ is designed and implemented using ’The Environment and Us’ as an example. Finally, classroom observations and interviews are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the application and to summarize the shortcomings in the design and implementation of the project-based unit. |
