Rural left-behind children are a special group generated under the background of social, political, and economic reform in China. This study focuses on the impact of media tension on the parent-child relationship of rural left-behind children from an interdisciplinary perspective. In order to achieve the purpose of in-depth research, this study first collected quantitative data on media exposure and parent-child relationships among rural left-behind children through questionnaires, and then 11 representative left-behind children were selected for in-depth interviews to obtain qualitative research data. The study found that demographic characteristics and family characteristics such as whether they are only children, achievement rankings, and family conditions affect the parent-child relationship of rural left-behind children. The dimensions of media contact intensity such as contact duration and frequency, main contact methods in media contact behavior, and digital feedback have a significant positive impact on parent-child relationship.Based on the analysis of questionnaire data and Joshua Merowitz’s framework of media situational theory, the deep connotation of parent-child relationship influenced by media exposure among rural left behind children is analyzed in three aspect : digitalization of family field, equalization of parent-child roles, and regionalization of parent-child interaction. Finally, from the perspective of technical criticism, the parent-child relationship of rural left behind children under media exposure is facing the dilemma of online communication fatigue, offline interaction being squeezed, and generation gap being difficult to bridge. Therefore, improvement strategies are proposed : reducing communication barriers and adjusting regulatory standards;Avoid media dependence and prioritize offline communication;Deepen content feedback and promote mutual recognition.
