Emotional eating is an abnormal eating pattern, which means that people’s eating behavior is not driven by their body’s sense of hunger or fullness, but rather is a psychological adjustment method taken to alleviate their internal pressure or emotional problems.High school is an important period for the physical and mental development of teenagers. They are constantly self-exploring in a new learning environment, and they also face various learning pressures, interpersonal relationships, and other pressures. They are likely to use eating methods to relieve pressure, which is highly susceptible to emotional eating behavior. This study mainly examines the impact of negative life events on emotional eating among senior high school students,as well as the role of dysfunctional attitudes and anxiety,in order to provide suggestions for reducing emotional eating among senior high school students. In this study,717 students from four high schools in Changchun,Siping, and Baishan,Jilin Province, and the collected questionnaires were statistically processed and analyzed using the 《Adolescent Life Events Scale 》,《the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale》,《the Anxiety Self-Rating Scale》,and 《the Emotional Eating Scale》,the results were as follows.(1)The negative life events of high school students are generally at a lower middle level, with girls experiencing higher negative life events than boys; The overall score of senior one is the highest;Students with families located in cities and towns scored higher than students with families located in rural areas.(2)The overall level of dysfunctional attitudes among senior high school students is lower than the middle level, and the level of dysfunctional attitudes among girls is significantly higher than that among boys; The level of dysfunctional attitude in the first grade of senior high school is higher than that in the second and third grades of senior high school; The scores of high school students whose families are located in cities and towns are significantly higher than those of high school students whose families are located in rural areas.(3)The overall anxiety level of high school students is lower than the middle level, with significant differences in grades. The highest score is obtained in the first year of senior high school, followed by the third year of senior high school, and finally the second year of senior high school;Students with rural families scored lower than students with urban families.(4)High school students’ emotional eating is generally at a lower middle level, with no significant difference in gender, but significant difference in grade, with the highest score in the first grade and the lowest score in the second grade;Students whose families are located in cities and towns scored significantly higher than students whose families are located in rural areas; The BMI index is positively correlated with the level of emotional eating.(5)There was a significant correlation between negative life events, dysfunctional attitudes, anxiety, and emotional eating.(6)Dysfunctional attitudes and anxiety play a chain mediating role between negative life events and emotional eating. Conclusion: Negative life events, dysfunctional attitudes, and anxiety in high school students can positively predict emotional eating, and negative life events can affect emotional eating through a chain mediating effect of dysfunctional attitudes and anxiety. Therefore, through frustration education for high school students,we can rationally view negative life events, reduce the level of dysfunctional attitudes, alleviate anxiety levels, and thereby inhibit the possibility of emotional eating.Based on this, this study proposes educational suggestions to help high school students form positive cognitive attitudes, learn methods to alleviate anxiety, and develop healthy eating and living habits.
