This study examines the application of argumentation teaching in fostering core competencies among junior high school students in ethics and the rule of law education.With the release of the 2017 edition of the high school ideological and political course syllabus,argumentation teaching has garnered attention among ideological and political teachers.Additionally,some ethics and law teachers have begun experimenting with its implementation in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education.The publication of the "2022 Edition of the Compulsory Education Moral and Legal Education Curriculum Standards" in April 2022 further emphasizes the importance of utilizing argumentation,creating diverse learning contexts,and guiding students in independent and collaborative practical exploration and experiential activities in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education.This further validates the value of implementing argumentation teaching in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education.This paper aims to investigate how argumentation teaching can be employed to cultivate core competencies among junior high school students.The paper is divided into four main sections.The introduction provides an analysis of the research background and significance,the current state of domestic and international research,as well as the research methods and innovations.The second section discusses the theoretical basis of argumentation teaching in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education,focusing on three aspects.Firstly,it provides an overview of argumentation teaching and highlights its characteristics in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education,namely,inquiry-based,open-ended,and engaging.Secondly,it explores the theoretical foundations of argumentation teaching in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education from the perspectives of constructivism,dialogue-based instruction,and experiential learning.Furthermore,it analyzes the content of junior high school ethics and the rule of law education and the feasibility of applying argumentation teaching to junior high school students.Finally,it conducts an analysis of the practical value of argumentation teaching in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education.The third section aims to analyze the current implementation status of argumentation teaching in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education.Through classroom research,surveys,reflective practice,data analysis,and survey results,it identifies key issues related to the implementation of argumentation teaching in junior high school ethics and the rule of law education,and analyzes the reasons from the perspectives of teachers,students,and the school environment.The fourth section proposes strategies for incorporating argumentation teaching into junior high school ethics and the rule of law education to address the identified issues.These strategies encompass the preparation stage,classroom implementation,and post-lesson consolidation.In the preparation stage,teachers are advised to enhance their proficiency in argumentation teaching,develop argumentation teaching plans for junior high school ethics and the rule of law education,and design evaluation scales.During classroom implementation,teachers should select suitable topics for argumentation,create conducive contexts for discussion,organize engaging activities for argumentation,pose meaningful questions for debate,and assess students’ participation in argumentation.In terms of post-lesson consolidation,teachers are encouraged to utilize homework assignments to expand the scope of argumentation teaching,promote practical exploration,deepen the cultivation of core competencies,engage in self-reflection,and facilitate professional development.By addressing the aforementioned sections,this paper investigates the application of argumentation teaching in cultivating core competencies among junior high school students in ethics and the rule of law education.It is hoped that this research will provide valuable insights and references for improving and enhancing junior high school ethics and the rule of law education.
