As society progresses and higher education becomes more widespread, the number of university students continues to grow every year. However, during their studies in universities, students often face issues such as academic pressure, improper learning strategies, lack of learning engagement, and lack of critical thinking, which can lead to poor academic performance or failure. Therefore, understanding the relationship between students’ learning strategies, learning engagement, and critical thinking is crucial for enhancing learning outcomes and academic achievements. This paper mainly adopts literature review and questionnaire survey methods, aiming to explore the relationship between university students’ learning strategies, learning engagement, and critical thinking.Specifically, the main contents of this study include: Firstly, through questionnaire surveys and factor analysis, the current status of university students’ learning strategies, learning engagement, and critical thinking is revealed, and the demographic variable differences of these factors and their correlations are analyzed.Secondly, the mediating role of learning strategies between students’ learning engagement and critical thinking is explored.Thirdly, the problems and causes of university students’ learning strategies, learning engagement, and critical thinking are analyzed, and a series of countermeasures to improve university students’ critical thinking skills are proposed. The research findings are:(1)There is a significant positive correlation between university students’ learning strategies, learning engagement, and critical thinking, where learning strategies partially mediate between learning engagement and critical thinking.(2)The study also revealed the problems that university students face in terms of learning strategies, learning engagement, and critical thinking, such as lack of intrinsic motivation for learning, lack of procedural planning ability, and low self-monitoring and evaluation levels.(3)Corresponding solutions are proposed in this study. These research outcomes are expected to provide useful references for improving university students’ learning outcomes and critical thinking skills.
