Labor education is an important part of our comprehensive development education, especially for students’ physical and mental development. It has been widely paid attention to,especially to the improvement of labor literacy as a whole. In the field of intellectual cultivation education, special courses on labor skills have been set,and the Curriculum Standards on Labor Skills for Compulsory Education in the School for Mentally Retarded Children(2016 edition)(hereinafter referred to as the Curriculum Standards on Labor Skills)have been issued. There is a gap between the ideal of national curriculum and the concrete implementation of schools.Through practical experience,it is found that the teaching of labor skills in the School for Mentally Retarded Children is faced with some practical problems, such as teachers do not know how to determine the teaching objectives, carry out teaching activities, conduct teaching evaluation, and lay stress on the acquisition of labor skills while ignoring the overall cultivation of labor literacy.Based on this, this study believes that it is necessary to explore how to effectively carry out school-based implementation of labor skills curriculum. In view of the achievements of previous researches on project-based learning, this study explores the application of project-based learning in the implementation of labor skills curriculum in the School for Mentally Retarded Children,in order to provide relevant teaching references for front-line teachers. Therefore,in order to seek effective teaching methods for the implementation of labor skills curriculum in the School for Mentally Retarded Children, this study adopts the paradigm of action research and selects students in Class L of Z school as research objects to explore the feasible path of project-based learning in the teaching of labor skills curriculum in the School for Mentally Retarded Children. After comprehensive consideration of labor skills curriculum standard, students’ learning situation and parents’ expectations, this study formulated the semester teaching objectives, and determined the semester project theme, project implementation process and project evaluation method. The formal research consists of three rounds of actions. In each round of specific project implementation process,it mainly includes four aspects:project selection, project task planning, project task implementation, project results and evaluation. The research shows that through project-based learning, the students’ labor literacy has been effectively improved;Project-based learning can be used as a teaching activity of labor skills.Project-based learning can improve the teaching effect of labor skills to a certain extent. In order to improve the teaching quality of labor skills courses more effectively and continuously, this study puts forward the following suggestions: To deepen the reform of labor skills curriculum in the School for Mentally Retarded Children with labor literacy as the breakthrough point;Taking project-type learning as the breakthrough point,we should carry out the teaching of labor skills in the School for Mentally Retarded Children.Set up the labor skills teaching team of the School for Mentally Retarded Children to improve the professional level of teachers;Based on curriculum integration, promote the school-based implementation of labor skills courses in the School for Mentally Retarded Children;Take home-school-community cooperation as an opportunity to enrich labor skills curriculum resources.
