High school is a critical period of adolescent development and growth.It is a turning point for individuals to become adults and be independent.They strongly hope to get others’ understanding and respect,and care about others’opinions of them.Therefore,teachers’ understanding,respect,concern,encouragement and other emotional support have an important impact on students.Most of the previous studies focused on the relationship between teachers’ emotional support and students’ learning,but less on its relationship with mental health and its internal mechanism.As an adaptive emotion regulation strategy,cognitive reappraisal is influenced by social support and plays a role in promoting mental health.Therefore,whether cognitive reappraisal plays a role in students’ understanding of the relationship between teachers’emotional support and mental health is also worth further discussion.Based on this,this paper takes high school students as the research object to explore the relationship between comprehension teachers’ emotional support and mental health,examine the mediating role of cognitive reappraisal,and discuss the mechanism of action.In the first study,393 high school students from Henan,Xinjiang and Heilongjiang were surveyed by the perceptive teacher Support Behavior Questionnaire,the Emotional Regulation Strategies Questionnaire:Cognitive reappraisal scale and the Mental health Scale of middle school students.In the second study,12 high school students were given semi-structured interviews using a qualitative study.The results are as follows:(1)High school students perceive that teachers’ emotional support is significantly different in grade and place of residence;There are significant differences in the mental health of high school students in whether they are class cadres or not and where they live.(2)High school students perceive that teachers’ emotional support,cognitive reappraisal and mental health are pin-wise correlated.(3)Cognitive reappraisal has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between teachers’ emotional support and mental health.(4)Senior high school students understand teachers’ emotional support mainly includes:active concern,encouragement and guidance,emotional attention;The cognitive reappraisal methods of high school students include:evaluation neglect,empathy;High school students’ mental health is embodied in:interpersonal harmony,academic confidence.(5)The mediating mechanism of cognitive reappraisal is as follows:high school students’ understanding of teachers’ emotional support can improve their propensity to use cognitive reappraisal strategies by inducing gratitude,authority identification,stabilizing emotions and obtaining self-efficacy;Cognitive reappraisal can improve high school students’ mental health by keeping them positive and optimistic,relieving stress and creating a sense of identity.(6)High school students understand that teachers’ emotional support also affects their mental health by stimulating their learning motivation and gaining a sense of hope.
