Based on the oral history and ethnographic field survey of community members, this paper analyzes the action logic of elderly people’s social participation against the background of urban grassroots governance transformation With the change of unit structure, the sense of unit identity of the elderly has experienced a process from strong to weak and then reshaped, which is reflected in the paths and forms of social participation under different grass-roots governance modes. The results show that, firstly, the social participation of the elderly is influenced by the top-down and bottom-up forces of the state;Secondly, the logic of social participation reflects the practice of "being a man" based on "human favor" and "face" in Chinese society.Thirdly, the elderly’s social participation shows their internal requirements for self-enlargement.Fourthly,the possibility of changing from small community to large community of social governance can be explored from the social participation of the urban elderly. The innovation of this research lies in that it deviates from the western countries’ interpretation of the growth path of "publicity" and "public spirit" in the "group pattern",and tries to find the local path to cultivate "publicity" in China under the community system based on the realistic structure of China’s social differential pattern. |
