Under the background of the continuous deepening of China’s education curriculum reform,the core literacy of students has become the guidance of cultivating talents in the new era.The cultivation of the core literacy of geography is an important method to implement the educational goal of fostering virtue through education,and an important means to fulfil the overall objective of geography curriculum.As one of the core qualities of geography,regional cognition is the basic idea and method of geography.Regional cognition has always been such an important part through junior middle school education process of geography that we must pay attention to the cultivation of junior middle school students’ regional cognitive ability.Geography teaching material is an important resource,while the "activity" column,an important part of geography teaching material,carrying a large amount of regional geography knowledge,can improve students’ interest and autonomy in geography learning which plays an important role in cultivating students’ geographical thinking and ability.Therefore,combining the two,it is of great significance to use the "activity" column to implement the cultivation of students’ regional cognitive ability to improve teachers’ teaching and promote students’ learning.This paper takes the "activity" column in geography teaching material as the research object,and takes cultivating regional cognitive ability as the research purpose to carry out the research on geography teaching strategies in junior middle school.Through collating and analying of the "activity" column of teaching material and regional cognitive literature at home and abroad,this paper constructs a research theoretical model supported by activity teaching theory,constructivism theory and humanistic theory,deeply interprets the connotation of regional cognitive ability,and divides it into four dimensions: regional spatial positioning ability,regional feature overview ability,regional relationship analysis ability and regional development planning ability.Using the combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods,this paper combs and analyzes the "activity" column in the eighth grade geography textbook of Hunan Education Edition from the two aspects of overall and type,and summarizes the value of the "activity" column to the cultivation of regional cognitive ability: Rich regional geography knowledge that "activity" column carries;The development of "activity" column is in line with the formation process of regional cognitive ability;The method of infiltrating regional cognition in "activity" column;Different types of "activities" columns focus on the cultivation of regional cognitive ability.Through the questionnaire survey,the author was acquainted with the current situation of the use of "activity" column in junior middle school geography teaching and the level of students’ regional cognitive ability,and comes to the conclusion that the current understanding of teachers and students on the cultivation of regional cognitive ability of "activity" column needs to be strengthened;Teachers’ teaching methods are deficient,and students’ subjectivity is not strong;Students’ level of regional cognitive ability is relative low.Finally,in view of the analysis of the "activity" column of the textbook and the problems existing in the actual teaching,this paper puts forward to renew the educational concept and deepen the regional cognitive consciousness from the perspective of the optimization of the "activity" column;Optimize the content of "activity" column based on regional perspective;Pay attention to the application of methods and improve the level of regional cognition;This paper puts forward the teaching strategy of "activity" column to cultivate regional cognitive ability from the four dimensions of the connotation of geographical regional cognitive ability,and designs corresponding teaching cases for practice,so as to provide further research of academics and teaching reference for teachers.
