The high school physical education specialization curriculum reform has been carried out for nearly ten years,which has put forward more stringent requirements for physical education teachers to specialize in teaching.Whether physical education teachers are competent in specialization teaching depends on the success or failure of the curriculum reform and the connection between the physical education curricula of large,medium,and small schools.Based on relevant research results and policies at home and abroad,we investigated the actual situation of high school physical education teachers’ teaching competency by taking physical education teachers in specialized high school physical education schools in Pudong New Area as respondents.Using literature method,expert consultation method,the construction of dimensions of teaching competency of high school physical education teachers,and the preparation of measurement scale for 4 dimensions and 16 factors of teaching competency;using questionnaire survey method,mathematical and statistical method,logical analysis method,the performance,problems,and reasons of teaching competency of high school physical education teachers in Pudong New Area,and methods of improvement were analyzed in depth.From the analysis of the survey results,it was concluded that the overall level of teaching competency of high school physical education teachers was at a good level.From the background,there are differences in teaching competency levels among high school physical education teachers with different school natures,genders,ages,teaching years,titles,motor skill levels,and specialties;the teaching competency of physical education teachers increases with the increase of age,teaching years,titles,and education.The survey found that the teaching competency of high school physical education teachers has problems such as insufficient educational knowledge and general knowledge,physical education teachers’ motor skills need to be improved,weak awareness of teaching research deviated awareness of parenting,and mood swings;combined with the actual situation of Pudong New Area,we learned that the problems are mainly caused by both physical education teachers themselves and external factors.According to the problems and causes,three suggestions are targeted to improve the teaching competency of high school physical education teachers: following the law of teacher growth and leading teachers’ independent development;establishing perfect recruitment,training,and evaluation mechanism for physical education teachers;and optimizing the school physical education atmosphere and social environment.
