| Interdisciplinary platform is an important carrier for cultivating interdisciplinary talents and conducting interdisciplinary research in world-class universities.Exploring its operating mechanism is of great significance for optimizing the development model of interdisciplinary platform in Chinese universities.In this study,the case study method is selected,and eight interdisciplinary platforms based on science and engineering disciplines in T University are taken as the research objects,aiming to explore four questions: what kind of operating mechanism the platform has formed,what problems exist in its operating mechanism,why it has formed such an operating mechanism,and why these problems arise.This paper constructs an analysis framework of interaction of operational elements,and explores the operational mechanism of interdisciplinary platform from the perspective of different stages of development.In the initial construction stage,the person in charge of the platform interacted with the team members and the functional departments of the school respectively,which laid the tone for the development of the platform and solved the operating expenses required for the initial construction of the platform;School leaders cooperated with teachers of relevant departments to solve the dilemma of the initial construction of the platform;The cooperation among the internal personnel of the platform mainly carries out interdisciplinary communication internally,forming the operational mechanism in the initial construction stage.In the stage of survival and adaptation,the person in charge of the platform interacted with the team members and the functional departments of the school,gradually expanded the teaching staff,and began to seek the support of guiding special funds;School leaders cooperated with many parties to solve the dilemma of platform survival and development;Platform researchers gradually cross departments to carry out interdisciplinary exchanges,thus forming an operational mechanism in the survival and adaptation stage.In the stage of sustainable development,the platform leaders and team members began to devote themselves to cultivating interdisciplinary talents facing the future;The school leaders further interacted with local governments and solved the dilemma of sustainable development such as poor external communication;The responsible persons and researchers respectively establish cooperation with enterprises and other social organizations,gradually seek stable funds through multiple channels,and gradually carry out interdisciplinary exchanges for the society,thus forming the operational mechanism of the platform in the stage of sustainable development.There are still some problems in the interdisciplinary platform of T University: in the aspect of research team construction,the platform lacks the system of joint employment of teachers and the system of student training is not perfect;In terms of school leaders’ overall planning to solve the platform dilemma,the platform lacks a long-term mechanism for school leaders to coordinate;In terms of funding resources,the platform guides the insufficient supply of special funds,and the evaluation content is improper;In terms of output of research results,interdisciplinary research results are difficult to be recognized by peers,and the attribution of research results is not standardized.According to Bourdieu’s capital theory,the interdisciplinary platform of T University has formed different operating mechanisms through the interaction of various elements in different development stages.The main reasons are the accumulation of multiple capitals such as symbolic capital,economic capital,cultural capital and social capital of platform leaders,researchers,school leaders and administrators of school functional departments,etc.,which have turned into the driving force for the operation and development of interdisciplinary platform through specific organizational relationship fields.The main reasons for the above-mentioned problems in the operating mechanism of T University interdisciplinary platform are as follows: the traditional appointment system based on disciplines leads to the lack of joint employment system for teachers,and the incomplete cross-knowledge system and the shortage of funds and resources lead to the imperfect student training system;Administrative authority does not fully promote the accumulation of other capitals,which leads to the lack of a long-term mechanism for school leaders to coordinate;The functional orientation of the current funding system leads to insufficient guiding special funds and improper assessment content;Conflicts between different disciplines and cultures make it difficult to recognize interdisciplinary research results,and lack of relevant systems leads to nonstandard recognition of achievements.In view of the problems existing in the operating mechanism of the interdisciplinary platform of T University,the author puts forward six suggestions:making the joint employment plan of interdisciplinary teachers,perfecting the training mechanism of interdisciplinary students,deepening the sharing mechanism of large-scale instruments and equipment resources,setting up diversified exclusive funds for interdisciplinary research,establishing the academic Committee for interdisciplinary research evaluation,and making the benefit distribution mechanism of risk sharing. |
