| The fierce competition of a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial revolution and the construction of a powerful country in higher education have put forward new requirements for the development of higher education in our country.Under this background,a new type of higher education — new research university was born in my country.New research universities have distinctive features that are different from traditional research universities,and are the Chinese practice of the concept of entrepreneurial universities.The new research university directly faces the development needs of the country and the region,adopts the school-running concept of "high starting point,high positioning,small but refined,and internationalization",adheres to the construction of characteristic disciplines and specialities for the frontier of science and technology and local industries,and explores innovative management systems,striving for diversified funding channels,close cooperation between production,education and research,and achieved outstanding achievements in a relatively short period of time.Disciplines and specialities are the fundamental carriers for the implementation of teaching,scientific research and social service functions in colleges and universities,and are the breakthroughs for new research universities to achieve their development goals.Disciplinary layout is the primary link in the construction of disciplines and specialities,and has a decisive impact on the improvement of the discipline level and the positioning and development of the university.This study focuses on the construction of disciplines and specialities of new research universities in my country,starts from the layout of disciplines and specialities,presents the characteristics disciplines and specialities layout in a panoramic view,and explores the support system for the construction of disciplines and specialities.This paper takes Southern University of Science and Technology as a typical case to deeply explore the history and effectiveness of the construction of disciplines,specialities and supporting systems in the new research university,and then provides a broader development idea for my country’s "double first-class" construction.The study found that the disciplines and specialities of the new research universities are characterized by ‘small and refined’,focusing on the construction of basic disciplines,focusing on creating special and advantageous disciplines,laying out frontier disciplines based on local areas,and focusing on the development of emerging interdisciplinary disciplines.The construction of disciplines and specialities in new research universities is inseparable from the internal and external support systems.From the outside,the developed high-tech industries in the coastal cities,the overall resource supply of the high-level developed cities,and the policy and institutional inclination from the central to the local are the important suppoes to the research universities.From the inside,Disciplinary organization,institutional system and discipline culture provides a good support for the construction and development of disciplines.Since the birth of the new research university more than ten years ago,under the planning and guidance of the new discipline layout,the discipline construction has achieved many leap-forward results,and the level of discipline construction has been significantly improved.A number of high-level and well-structured discipline echelons have been established,advanced scientific research platforms have been established,and scientific research achievements have been fruitful,and the conversion rate of achievements has been continuously improved,and the social service capacity has been significantly enhanced.In addition,it puts forward reflections and suggestions on the autonomy of discipline and professional setting,discipline and professional system,fund raising,and construction of advantageous disciplines. |
