What factors influence it? What are the mechanisms of influence? What are the implications for enhancing university students’ sense of school belonging in the post-epidemic era? This study is based on the survey data collected from June to August 2020 on the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the learning experience of university students in six‘double-class’ universities. This study explores the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on the sense of belonging of university students in ‘double-class’ universities. The study conducted a descriptive analysis of the current characteristics of the sense of belonging of university students in "double-class" universities in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, explored the influencing mechanism of the sense of belonging of undergraduate students through regression analysis and path analysis, and finally proposed that the cultivation and enhancement of the sense of belonging of university students in "double first-class" universities should be carried out. Finally,we propose suggestions for cultivating and improving the sense of belonging of university students in "double first-class" universities. The following conclusions were obtained from this study.Firstly, the sense of school belonging and its dimensions among undergraduates in "double-class" universities are all at a high level and have some stability. In the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, university students’ sense of identity belonging is the highest and their sense of spiritual belonging is the lowest. At the same time, there were significant group differences in the sense of school belonging and its dimensions in terms of demographic factors such as gender, grade, ethnicity, urban and rural place of origin, family socio-economic status and subject type.Secondly, chool belongingness was significantly influenced by demographic factors and individual factors such as psychological problems, family factors such as parental socioeconomic status and parenting style, and school factors such as discipline type and school support among university students in ‘double-class’ universities. In the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, psychological problems, parenting style and school support had significant effects on the three dimensions of school belonging among university students in ‘double-class’ universities, but not to the same extent.Thirdly,by constructing a model of the individual-family-school pathway of school belonging among university students in ‘double-class’ universities in the context of COVID-19 epidemic,it was found that school support and individual psychological problems partially mediated the relationship between parenting style and university students’ sense of belonging. This study found that school support and individual psychological problems partially mediated the relationship between parenting styles and college students’ sense of belonging in school.Based on the above findings, this study provides the following suggestions to improve the sense of belonging of college students in ‘double-class’ universities and guide their healthy development under the normalization of COVID-19 epidemic: establish correct values and pay attention to students’ mental health in special periods;strengthen homeschool cooperation and build individual-family-school belongingness;focus on main responsibilities and improve the quality of education and services with practical actions, and pay attention to the network trend of students and the application of educational information technology. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | COVID-19 Epidemic, School Belonging, ‘Double-class’ Universities, Psychological Problems, Parenting Style, School Support | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
